2nd Annual Kurdistan Region Student SPE Conference
A technical conference titled “2nd Annual Kurdistan Region Student SPE Conference” will be held in Sulaimani the cultural capital of Kurdistan Region-Iraq. In this conference the final year graduate projects will be presented and assessed by academics and industry professionals. With the aim to enhance student’s learning as well as to enable them to meet the competencies sought by oil/gas industries.
There are many challenges are to be discussed in the conference, which help academics and industry to think and reform the course learning outcome of oil/gas program offered by universities in Kurdistan Region. As part of this conference technical challenges that face operators during exploration, drilling, production, and reservoir management are discussed to help our students to understand the nature of real work at field.
KUST is a modern university in the region and known as the gathering place for discussing and sharing knowledge with community leaders and government officials that involved in the operation of current and yet to be discovered reserves.

Professor Kawis Aziz Faraj is a PhD holder in Bioscience and Biotechnology from University of Strathclyde Glasgow Scotland. Currently servingas the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Komar University of Science and Technology in Sulaymani-Iraq. He oversees academic and student affairs within KUST. | |
Assit. Prof. Hiwa Sidiq is the Chairperson of Petroleum Engineering Department at KUST since 2017. He also held the director of Komar Research Centre. Dr Hiwa obtain both his Ph.D. and MSc in Petroleum Engineering at Woodside Research Facility Curtin University. Before joining KUST he was a Senior Consultant (Reservoir Engineer) for Emerson Process Management in Australia. |

Dr. Jagar Aziz, is chairperson of Petroleum Engineering Department at Faculty of Engineering Soran University. Recently he was appointed as a member of ‘Petroleum Exploration and Development. Dr Jagar is an active researcher and published many research articles in the highly impact factor journals. He is also serving as the reviewer for many high-quality petroleum engineering journals.

Prof Basim Al-Qayim is a professor of petroleum geology at Petroleum Engineering Department Komar University of Science and Technology. He has more than 35 years of experience in the field of geology, stratigraphy and petroleum geology. His expertise coves both academia and oil/gas industry. He has numerus published researches in highly impact factor journals. Before joining KUST Prof Basim was a professor at Geology Department University of Sulaimani.

Mr Twana A.Tahir is a PhD candidate in the field of (Sustainable Development). He held the Director of Quality Assurance at Komar University. He dedicates his work to ensure that the teaching quality within KUST meets the international standard.

In case the pandemic persists in our region the conference will be held virtually.
1. The venue
Sulaimani is one of the most popular destination in Iraq. Hundred thousands of people from around the world visit there every year. Sulaimani has served as the capital of the historic Kurdish principality of Baban and is officially the cultural capital of Iraqi Kurdistan.
The conference will be held on May (mid-Spring). Many people visit the city and its surrounding during Spring, which has a beautiful scenery.

The conference will be held at the High KUST main campus.

Conference program will a be a single track session. Morning session will start with the keynote, business leaders and prominent researchers presentations.
