On Wednesday, December 28th, 2016, Komar Research Center organized a seminar for Dr. Hiwa Sidiq, a senior lecturer at Petroleum Engineering Department and Reservoir Management expert, on surface permeability modeling.
The one-dimensional vertical electrical sounding (VES) method was conducted to locate underground water in Harwari Shar north of Sulaimani city. The area is located in high folded zone having an average altitude 950m above sea level. As the area located in high folded zone the rock layers display intensive deformation because active tectonic movements that occurred in the past geological time.
He has analyzed (VES) data, and he has determined the location of nine deep wells. The depth of the wells ranged from 90-165m (TVD). Before installing the casings all nine wells are subjected to resistivity well logs investigation. This was conducted to determine water bearing zones and invasion zones. Thereafter, results from well logs and VES are compared to design well completions. The drilled nine wells tested for 12 hours and showed different production rates ranging from 85-180 g/min. This result (production rate) indicates the procedure from survey to we design are successful.
The payzones permeability was also studied using reservoir simulation. Results of simulation matched with production profile to approximately generate permeability of water saturation zones. Permeability magnitudes appeared to be between 65-130 md of the studied target zones.
His seminar received a warm welcome from the audience and followed by a question and answer session.
