Dr. Hiwa Sidiq, Chairperson of the Petroleum Engineering Department, recently published a paper titled “Mitigating Liquid Carry-Over and Foaming…”. His paper investigates the issues caused by liquid drop-out in the sweetening towers of a gas processing plant in the KRG, Iraq. Three separators were studied and found to be unable to remove all liquid droplets of the required size, failing to meet efficiency standards. In response, a vertical scrubber design with a standard mesh mist extractor, based on the Arnold–Stewart semi-empirical method, was proposed. The design achieved a gas/liquid separation efficiency of 99% under both current and future conditions.
